6 Factors to Use in Your Wedding Venue Search

Choosing the right wedding venue is a multi-dimensional decision (and an important one!).

Wedding Venues

Choosing the right wedding venue is a multi-dimensional decision (and an important one!). It won’t matter if the venue is beautiful if it doesn’t fit all your guests, or if it doesn’t have the spaces you need, or if it blows your budget…the list could go on and on.  To help, we’ve simplified the list so you can choose the right wedding venue that fits all your criteria.

Date

There are two ways to use date to find the right wedding venue: 1) you can contact the wedding venue and give them a season and ask what dates are available; or 2) find venues that have availability on your chosen wedding date. Both strategies can connect you with the right wedding venue, and is an important first step in booking the right wedding venue (but definitely not the last step).

Venue style

What is your wedding style? We’ve given you tips to help you match your wedding style to the correct kind of venue BECAUSE it’s so important. A wedding venue should be the perfect backdrop that fits with all your personalized details to create a coordinated atmosphere.  Are you looking for a wedding venue full of details and historical significance? Or a rustic venue with an outdoor feel? Would you love to book a venue with a modern city feel?

Space (and spaces!)

The right wedding venue has space for all your guests (for their safety and comfort), and the right spaces for your big day.  It’s just the right size: not too big, not too small.  Have an approximate guess of the size of your guest list before you call (venue size should be one of several questions you ask). If the venue size is right, ask about available spaces that fit your needs. If you need space for a ceremony and reception, ask now; that information is not something you want to find out at the last minute.

Budget

Wedding planning is a marathon, so make sure you don’t use up all your funds now and don’t have any money for wedding expenses later. That being said, your wedding venue is important; after all, your venue provides the background for all your other wedding details.  Your wedding venue gives your guests the first (hopefully positive)—and lasting—impression, so make sure you budget accordingly and find the right wedding venue that fits within that number.

Special requests

If you have any special requests, or have any guests that require special requests, ask your wedding venue if they can fulfill those requests. Ask the question up front, so you don’t fall in love with a venue that won’t fit all your needs.

Tour

Never book a wedding venue without touring the venue first.  Internet pictures don’t always tell the whole story, or they can be outdated or edited.  When you embark on your wedding venue search, be sure to ask the questions important to you to make sure they meet every factor on your list.  If they check off all the boxes, set up a tour (or ask someone you trust to see the venue).  The right wedding venue checks off all the boxes, wows you during the viewing—and amazes your guests on your wedding day.
